
Häradskärs lighthouse
There has been a lighthouse on Häradskärs since the mid 1700’s and it was the first lighthouse in Sweden to be equipped with a rotating lens. In 1863 a new lighthouse was built under the supervision of the Swedish lighthouse builder Gustaf von Heidenstam. In 1943 it was equipped with the AGA-light. Show more
AGA is a industrial gas company that was founded in the early 1900’s. The company worked closely with Swedish inventor/ industrialist Gustav Dalén in developing different types of devices for acetylene gas. Gustav Dalén was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 1912 for his work with among other things lighthouse beacons. His inventions made it possible for lighthouse beacons to be kept burning for months or even years without supervision and to be automatically turned off and on. Show less
